Director: Zeki Demirkubuz
Born in 1964, in Isparta, he graduated from the Department of Communications of Istanbul University. He began his career in 1986, as assistant director to Zeki Ökten, codirector of Sürü (The Herd) which won the Gold Leopard with Locarno in 1979. His second full-length film, Masumiyet (Innocence, 1997) was presented in many festivals (Angers, Brussels, Istanbul), revealing the talent and innovation of this young scenario writer. Affirming a personal glance on contemporary Turkey, his films evoke the history of poor people, their economic, social and sentimental condition which marks them from their birth. Alternating fiction and documentary, Demirkubuz turned in 1996 Baris Ekspresi (Peace Express) which covers ethnic conflict in the Eastern part of Turkey. His trilogy, “Tales of Darkness” brought him fame, a number of awards and international recognition. The first two movies of the trilogy were brought to Atlanta by the 2003 Turkish Film Festival. Asked about the trilogy (Fate/Yazgi-2001, Confession/Itiraf-2002, Waiting Room/Bekleme Odasi-2004), he says: "I regret the decision to name it a trilogy, because now, after six or seven films, I realise that I will continue to make films about these subjects."
